At the start of this book I didn´t like it because it was a bit boring， but then it was very very interesting。 This book was also useful because I now know more about the Taliban and Afghanistan。 This book made me think about the things they eat and how poor they are。 I am looking forward to read the next book。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 Heartbreaking， especially in light of recent events。 Often billed as a good read for Years 5 and 6 but I am not sure about that。 While it is important for children to be informed ， the gruesome part of them having to dig up bodies to sell the bones for money， would tip it over into the YA bracket for me。 A good adult read。 You can’t help but read this and feel a whole range of emotions- despair， sadness， hope， and grateful for your own life。

I read this book with a group of fifth grade girls。 We learned so much about Afghanistan under Taliban rule before September， 2001。 I hope the girls/women remember this story and are following the events as they unfold in Afghanistan。
